Become a Member

While anyone can search listings on eBay, you must register first to buy or sell. As a registered eBay member, you can shop on eBay and participate in the world's largest online community of buyers and sellers.

Registration is free, but you must be at least 18 years of age. If you register using a free Web-based email address (such as Yahoo! or Hotmail), you must place a valid credit card number on file to verify your identity. Your card will be used for identification only and will not be charged. If you don't want to place a credit card on file, you need to register with an email address from a company or paid Internet Service Provider, such as AOL or become ID Verified.

Here are the basic steps:

· Click on the register link at the top of most eBay pages or click here.

· Enter basic information. Your personal information always remains private on eBay's secure servers.

· Choose your User ID and password. You must also pick a “secret question” and “secret answer” to provide extra security if you forget your password.

· Read and accept the eBay User Agreement and Privacy Policy. The User Agreement defines out the relationship between you and eBay, and the Privacy Policy is eBay's assurance to you that your information will remain private.

· Get a confirmation email from eBay. Check your email to find the “Complete Your eBay Registration” email sent to your email address you gave earlier. When you successfully complete and confirm your registration, eBay shows you a welcome screen with your user ID.
General Search Tips

eBay searches are not case-sensitive, so your results will be the same whether you use capital letters or not. In some cases, eBay expands your search to include a plural and/or an alternate spelling of your search word(s).

There are many words to describe any item. Imagine which words a seller might use to describe the item you're looking for. Try several different options and combinations -- but use just two or three words at a time to be sure you get a variety of results.

Search always looks for your keywords in the title of the items for sale. Click on search titles and descriptions under the search box to also search item descriptions. You'll get many more results.

In some cases, eBay automatically expands your search to include items based on the intent of your search rather than matching the exact keywords provided. If you do not want eBay to do this, then all you need to do is to put quotation marks around one of your keywords.
